How to choose the right size of fork or shovel?

Full length or Half length

Shovels

Digadoo’s Lightweight shovels come in full and half lengths to suit different needs. All Digadoo shovels have a high tensile stainless steel blade, and are hand crafted to last a lifetime.

Our shovels have a smaller blade and load size than a standard shovel, reducing weight and minimising back strain.

Our half length shovels are perfect for jobs where a spade is too big and a trowel is too small.

They combine the handiness of a trowel with the strength and reach of a spade, giving you that extra leverage without the extra weight.

Different lengths for different jobs.

Full length

Our full length shovels are particularly useful for working in and around established gardens, and in restricted areas. Full length shovels are available with round or square blades and a choice of Australian spotted gum hardwood or stainless steel handles.

Half length

Our half length shovels are great for gardening on your knees and around elevated or terraced beds. Just the right size for dividing perrenials, transplanting, potting up, planting out. Like the full length shovels, half length shovels are also available with round or square blades and a choice of Australian spotted gum hardwood or stainless steel handles.

Forks

Digadoo’s Lightweight Forks – just like our lightweight shovels – come in two different lengths.

Full length and half length forks mean there is a fork to suit whatever job you need to do.

Available with all stainless steel construction, or Australian spotted gum hardwood handle.

Different lengths for different jobs.

Digadoo lightweight forks come in 2 sizes, to suit different needs. Both Full and Half length have scaled down stainless steel tynes, not only lowering tool weight, but digging effort and back strain is reduced.

Both sizes available with a choice of timber handle, for that traditional look and feel, or stainless steel, offering low maintenance and durability. Full length great for general digging and turning of soils. Half length suitable for gardening in confined spaces, and raised or terraced garden beds, or working on your knees.

Tool Maintenance

One of the benefits of owning Digadoo tools is being stainless steel, they require little maintenance. To keep stainless steel handled tools in good order just give them a hose from time to time and keep the blade sharpened.

Timber handled tools require oiling a few times per year depending on whether they’re left outside or put under cover.

Most garden tools perform better if kept sharp which results in the tool doing more of the work for you, less energy is required which reduces fatigue which means you can garden longer! Less obvious is that sharp cutting edges are actually safer as they are more likely to cut cleanly with less momentum and effort.

How to Sharpen your Digadoo Tools

Tally-hoes, Hand Tools and all Forks

We recommend all of the above tools be sharpened with a quality file.

If you choose to use a power grinder avoid overheating as the edge will become soft (discolouring is an indication of overheating).

Shovels/Spades

These tools can be sharpened with a file or a power grinder.

This grade is not softened by excessive heat.
